Cough & Cold Herbal Tea Blend
Enjoy of our herbal blend containing coltfoot, anise, licorice, mullein and marshmallow root. Coltsfoot is used as a respiratory disinfectant, expectorant, and cough suppressant and makes an effective tea to clear congestion. Since the days of ancient Greece and Rome coltsfoot has been used to relieve asthma and bronchial congestion. At our house, we consider a keeping a store of dried coltsfoot on hand a good practice for those winter coughs and colds that are bound to come. Licorice extract, 3 triterpenes and 13 flavonoids exhibit evident anti-inflammatory properties mainly by decreasing TNF, MMPs, PGE2 and free radicals, which also explain its traditional applications in stimulating digestive system functions, eliminating phlegm, relieving coughing, nourishing qi (or the body’s vital force) and alleviating pain in TCM.”[iii]
Indeed, many studies have shown it to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and immune regulating properties, in addition to liver, adrenal and heart strengthening properties. Coltsfoot tea with honey is one of my all time favorite winter and flu season teas. This is one of the most effective cold herbs I have tried. Still, I keep it for reserved for short term use because of the presence of the very small amounts of (pyrrolizidine alkaloids).
Package includes 3.8 ounce of herbs to brew 25-50 cups of tea depending on desired strength.
